PERFORMANCE PRACTISE

Site-specific. Research-led. Open to every body.

OurBody performance projects begin with a question, not a choreography. We enter a space — a building, a landscape, an institution, a ruin — and we let it speak. What happened here? What does this place hold in its walls, its floors, its air? What do our bodies feel when we arrive?

From that encounter, a performance grows.

This is not conventional theatre. There is no script handed to performers before rehearsal begins. The work emerges from collective research, somatic practice, and the specific energy of the place we are inhabiting. Every body in the room — professional mover or complete beginner — is both researcher and performer. The local community is both participant and witness.

Lauren Pringle has developed this methodology across years of site-specific work in Berlin, Zurich, and beyond — including projects at Berliner Festspiele, Rote Fabrik Zürich, Mahalla, and Kulturkirche Nikodemus. The work has always begun the same way: with arrival, with curiosity, and with the body.

HOW WE WORK

Every project moves through the same essential arc — regardless of format or timeline:

Arrival & Space Research
We begin by inhabiting the space without agenda. We move through it, rest in it, study its history and material. Past, present, and future become creative material. The space becomes our canvas.

Somatic Practice & Method
Drawing on Body-Mind Centering, authentic movement, somatic weaving, and urban dance modalities, we build a shared physical language. This is where individual bodies begin to find each other — and where the group becomes a collective organism.

Devising & Material Generation
From the research, performance material emerges. Scenes, images, scores, movement sequences — nothing is imposed, everything is discovered. Lauren facilitates, edits, and shapes without dictating. The work belongs to the group.

The Performance
A live piece created for and with the local community. Witnessed by those who live alongside the space we have been inhabiting. Raw, specific, and unrepeatable.

FORMATS

One Day Intensive

A single day of immersive site-specific research and devising, closing with a short sharing for invited witnesses. Ideal for organisations, arts institutions, or communities who want to experience the OurBody method as a standalone event.

The day moves through arrival, space research, somatic method work, and collective devising — culminating in an open showing at the end of the afternoon.

Suitable for groups of 8–20. Professional and non-professional movers welcome.

Weekend Intensive — 2 days

A deeper dive. Two full days in a single space, building enough collective trust and physical language to produce something genuinely surprising.

Day one is research and practice — arriving in the body, arriving in the space, beginning to find the material. Day two moves into devising and performance — shaping what emerged, and sharing it.

Weekend intensives are particularly powerful for groups who already know each other — teams, ensembles, communities — and for individuals who want a concentrated experience of the full OurBody arc.

Suitable for groups of 8–25. Can be tailored for professional development, team retreats, or open community participation.

Week-Long Residency — 5–7 days

The full experience. A week inside a space, inside the work, inside the group.

This is where the OurBody method reveals its real depth. With time to slow down, repeat, fail, discover, and refine — participants move from strangers to collaborators to performers. The performance that closes the week is never a polished product. It is something truer than that: a document of what this group found, in this space, at this moment.

Week-long residencies are offered in site-specific locations across Europe — including Lauren's forest property in Brandenburg — and can be tailored for arts organisations, festivals, or private groups.

Suitable for groups of 8–20. Accommodation and catering can be arranged for residential formats.

2–3 Month Research & Performance Project

The deepest format. A sustained research process that unfolds over two to three months, meeting regularly in a single site-specific location, building toward a fully realised performance piece for the local community.

This is the format closest to Lauren's original practice — the one that produced work for Berliner Festspiele, Berlin Art Week, and Rote Fabrik Zürich. It allows time for genuine research: into the space, into somatic practice, into the group's own material. The performance that emerges is not a product of the timeline. It is a product of what the bodies in the room discovered together.

Projects at this scale are developed in partnership with venues, institutions, or commissioning organisations. Lauren works with a small core team and opens the process to local participants — mixing professional and non-professional movers from the beginning.

Currently accepting proposals for 2025–2026. Suitable for arts institutions, cultural venues, festivals, and commissioning bodies.

SPACES WE WORK IN

OurBody performance practice is site-specific by nature. We have worked in industrial buildings, churches, galleries, public courtyards, forests, and intimate domestic spaces. The space is never neutral — it is always a collaborator.
